THIBODAUX, La. – The HBU softball team will begin Southland Conference play this Friday at the Nicholls Softball Complex as the Huskies face the Colonels in a three-game series.
HBU (7-6) enters league play as the top-hitting team in the conference with a collective .314 batting average. Freshman catcher
Heidi Jaquez is leading the way with a .409 average, 10 runs scored, nine RBI and six doubles. Senior
Cecilia Bauer isn't far behind Jaquez with a .389 average while
Kassie James is hitting at a .371 clip.
The Huskies' power stroke has come on recently, with seven of the team's eight home runs coming during the last six games. Bauer,
Brooke Bushman and
Demi Janak all have two round-trippers this season.
Most recently, the Huskies dropped an 8-0 mid-week, non-conference matchup at defending Southland Conference McNeese.
Nicholls (14-9) is fresh off a 2-3 showing at the Red & Blue Classic hosted by Ole Miss. The Colonels defeated Mississippi Valley State, split two games with Austin Peay, and lost to UT-Martin and Ole Miss. Samantha Mracich leads Nicholls with a .429 average and 20 runs scored while Amanda Gianelloni has driven in 19 runs. Megan Landry has picked up seven wins in the circle for the Colonels with a 2.41 ERA.
The series begins Friday, March 10, with a single game 6:00 p.m. followed by a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 11.
