HOUSTON – HBU will aim to start moving up the Southland Conference standings this weekend as the Huskies host Incarnate Word for a three-game set at Husky Field beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, March 31, at 1:00 p.m.
The Huskies (8-16, 0-9 SLC) snapped an 11-game losing streak this past Tuesday with a 4-3 win over crosstown foe Texas Southern. Junior
Kassie James was 3-for-4 in the win with a run scored and one RBI.
Cecilia Bauer tripled with one out in the top of the seventh of a 3-3 ballgame, setting the stage for
Demi Janak's game-winning double.
Stephanie Buenrostro picked up her fourth win of the season in relief of starter
Shae Bibby.
As a team, HBU boasts the fifth-best batting average in the conference thanks to a balanced offensive attack that includes five different players with at least 10 runs scored and five with at least 10 runs batted in. Junior
Nicole Shedd has hit safely in four of the Huskies' last five games and
Libby Brown has reached base safely in 21 out of 24 games for the season.
Incarnate Word (5-26, 1-8 SLC) is led by senior outfielder Danielle Ramirez. Ramirez is currently third in the conference with a .400 batting average. Mikaela Flores leads the team with 15 RBI and Marcela Lopez is tops on the roster with 10 runs scored.
The Cardinals have lost four-straight and 19 of their last 20. The lone SLC victory came on the road at Central Arkansas by a score of 5-4.
