SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Freshman David Caraher put up career-highs of 30 points and 16 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the HBU men's basketball team fell on the road to UTSA on Saturday evening at the UTSA Convocation Center.

Caraher finished the game 10-of-16 from the floor and 3-of-5 from behind the arc. The freshman surpassed his previous career-bests of 21 points and eight rebounds. He was also 7-of-11 from the free throw line.

In a back-and-forth first half that saw 13 lead changes and seven ties, it was UTSA (6-5) that went into the locker room with a 42-33 lead at halftime. David Caraher put HBU (3-7) ahead 5-3 after a layup and a free throw to complete a three-point play but the Roadrunners got a three-point play of their own from Keaton Wallace on the next trip down the floor. The Huskies gained the first lead of more than two in the game on an Edward Hardt jumper from the top of the key at the 13:07 mark in the first half that made the score 16-12.

UTSA answered with a seven-point run to go up by three with 9:01 on the clock. Back-to-back buckets from Caraher, a layup and a three, put HBU back on top, 23-21, with 6:55 left in the half. With just under four minutes to go, Caraher's second three of the game put HBU back up by one but UTSA closed out the half on a 14-4 run.

In the second half, the Roadrunners pushed their lead to the 13 on a Wallace trey but the Huskies responded with a 9-1 stretch to make it 55-50 with 11:22 remaining in the game. The UTSA lead again reached 10 but the Huskies fought back to within five on an Oliver Lynch-Daniels three with 6:26 on the clock. The Roadrunners then closed out the game by out-scoring the Huskies 23-12 over the final 5:38.

Ian DuBose finished the game with 13 points and eight rebounds while Will Gates Jr. added 12. As a team, HBU shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) for the game and were 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from long-range. The Huskies held a 43-42 advantage on the boards and committed 13 turnovers while forcing 11 by the Roadrunners.

The Huskies will have nearly a week off before hosting Barclay on Friday, Dec. 15, in their final non-conference home game of the season.
