JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Fresh off a pair of home wins over Dallas Christian and Texas State, the HBU men's basketball team will next travel to the Garden State to face Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 6:00 p.m. CST. The Huskies (3-5) and Peacocks (3-4) will meet for the second time ever with the first meeting coming last season at Sharp Gym in the form of a 62-47 HBU win. HBU's
Josh Ibarra led all players in scoring with 16 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double.
Ibarra is the reigning Southland Conference Player of the Week after his two performances last week, leading HBU to a pair of wins while averaging 19 points, 13.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and four blocked shots. For the season, the senior is averaging 16.6 points and 10.4 boards per game and leads the Huskies with 12 blocked shots.
As a team, HBU boasts six players averaging at least nine points per game and hold advantages of plus-3.5 rebounds and plus-1.3 turnovers per game. Junior
Braxton Bonds leads the team with five assists per game, followed by Ibarra and then freshman
Oliver Lynch-Daniels who is averaging 2.4 assists in 14.5 minutes per game off the bench.
The Peacocks have won their lone home game this season, a 77-53 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. They are led by senior guard Nick Griffin who is averaging 17.9 points per game and shooting 47.3 percent (43-of-91) from the floor. Quinn Taylor has been Saint Peter's top rebounder, averaging 7.3 boards while adding 7.6 points per game. So far this season, the Peacocks are shooting 70 percent from the free throw line but have attempted 75 fewer free throws than their opponents through seven games.
HBU returns to Texas for its next game on Saturday, Dec. 9, when the Huskies will travel west on I-10 to San Antonio to take on UTSA at 7:00 p.m.
