HOUSTON – HBU Football held its annual awards banquet to announce its 2017 honorees, as voted on by the team, Sunday at the Morris Cultural Arts Center.
Senior H-back
Mev Ajdin, senior linebackers
Garrett Dolan and
Cody Moncure and senior safety
La'Travien Gee were named the 2017 permanent captains.
Senior wide receiver
Ethan Fry was selected as the Offensive Impact Player, while freshman quarterback
Bailey Zappe as the Offensive Newcomer. Dolan took home the Defensive Impact Player for the fourth-straight year, while junior cornerback
Raphael Lewis was the Defensive Newcomer. Senior punter
Christian Guzman was awarded the Special Teams Impact Player for the third time in four years and freshman cornerback
Coi Miller was the Special Teams Newcomer.
Dolan also received the Leadership Award and senior defensive tackle
Tyler Helaire and senior long snapper
Danny Garza earned the Christian Character Award.
Head Coach
Vic Shealy also honored the program's first four-year senior class, as well as the "Original 13", who were the foundational members of the program all five years.
Dolan and Lewis were All-Southland Conference First Team selections this year, while Guzman was named to the second team. Helaire and Moncure earned honorable mention. Ajdin and sophomore defensive end
Andre Walker were CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees.
