HOUSTON – Junior centerfielder
Zane Otten went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, a run and a stolen base as the Huskies claimed a 7-3 victory over Texas Southern in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field.
Junior catcher
Jacob Martinez went 1-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs and threw out two on the basepaths, while senior shortstop
Louie Payetta went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Senior second baseman
David Bloodworth singled and scored twice and senior designated hitter Austin Seanz added a double, an RBI and scored twice for the Huskies (20-23).
Junior righthander
Addison Russ (7-4) received the win, holding TSU scoreless in one inning. Junior lefthander
Ivan Smith started and allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in three innings, while junior righthander
Julian Griego gave up one run on three hits in three innings of relief.
Javier Valdez went 3-for-4 with a double and drove in a run for TSU (18-23), while Olajide Oloruntimilehin went 2-for-4 with a double. Gerreck Jimenez added an RBI for the Tigers.
Ryan Hawkins (2-2) allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks in 2.2 innings to take the loss as TSU used five pitchers over the next 5.1 innings.
The Huskies got on the board with a three-spot in the third. Payetta led off with an infield single and scored on senior first baseman
Andrew Alvarez's sacrifice fly. With two outs and no runners on, Saenz walked, Otten doubled to rightcenter and junior leftfielder
Josh Leonhardt was hit by a pitch to load the bases, before Martinez delivered a two-run single to right to give HBU a 3-0 lead.
TSU answered with two runs in the fourth when Ryan Lazo and Jimenez led off with back-to-back walks, then scored on a two-run single by Valdez. HBU got the run back in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman
Justin Monsour.
The Tigers got back to within one as Horace Leblanc led off with a single in the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jimenez.
HBU tacked on three more in the sixth with another two-out rally. Bloodworth singled and moved to third with two outs, then scored on a wild pitch. Alvarez drew a walk, then Saenz and Otten smacked back-to-back doubles down the rightfield line.
Senior righthander
Dylan Zarosky loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth, but struck out Andrew Moore, got Lazo to pop up to second, then struck out Jimenez look to end the game.
