CONWAY, Ark. – The HBU softball team dropped both games of a Southland Conference doubleheader at Central Arkansas, falling 3-0 and 4-2 on Saturday at Farris Field.
Sophomore left fielder
Nicole Shedd led the Huskies (15-25, 7-15 SLC) at the plate against the Sugar Bears (34-17, 15-8 SLC), turning in a 3-for-6 showing.
Senior pitchers
Laci Belovsky (8-14) and
Shannon O'Connor (5-7) each suffered losses on the afternoon in complete-game efforts for HBU, recording three strikeouts. Belovsky surrendered three runs on four hits, while O'Connor gave up four runs on eight hits.
The Huskies will look to avoid the series sweep in a noon first pitch on Sunday.

Freshman second baseman
Demi Janak plated HBU's first run of the series with a sacrifice fly off pitcher Kayla Gomness (11-4) in the opening frame. Freshman shortstop
Savana Guidry singled to left field and senior third baseman
Shay Orsak reached on an error in the infield, before both advanced into scoring position on a groundout in the next at bat.
However, UCA got a three-run home run from catcher Jessie Taylor in the bottom of the first to take the lead, 3-1.
The Sugar Bears tacked on another run on a pinch-hit RBI double from Bailey Reynolds in the bottom of the sixth.
The Huskies tried to rally in the seventh. Freshman designated player
Brooke Bushman and senior pinch-hitter
Erica Reyes both singled to open the frame. A fielder's choice from Belovsky in the next at bat, put runners at the corners with one out. Following a strikeout, Orsak plated Bushman on an infield single, before a fielder's choice closed the game, 4-2.
Game 1: Central Arkansas 3, HBU 0
UCA starter Shivaun Landeros (20-11) tossed a one-hit shutout in the series opener. Shedd singled to center field in the second inning.
