CONWAY, Ark. – The HBU softball team fell, 4-2, as Central Arkansas completed the Southland Conference series sweep on Sunday afternoon at Farris Field.
Sophomore first baseman
Libby Brown and freshman second baseman
Demi Janak both turned in 2-for-3 efforts at the plate for the Huskies (15-26, 7-16 SLC) and accounted for the team's two runs scored. With one out in the sixth inning, Brown singled through the left side, before Janak deposited a 2-1 offering from UCA (35-17, 16-8 SLC) starter Shivaun Landeros (21-11) over the wall in left-center, her team-leading eighth home run of the season.
Senior pitcher
Laci Belovsky (8-16) suffered the loss in a complete-game effort, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Both Belovsky and Landeros tossed their 19th complete games of the season, which co-lead the conference.
The Sugar Bears plated two runs in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly and solo homer, before doubling their lead on a two-run shot in the third.
HBU will close the 2016 season with its final league series, visiting Abilene Christian for a three-game set across May 6-7.
