NORTHRIDGE, California – CSUN got a two-out solo home run from Branden Berry in the bottom of the first, and the tally would hold up the rest of the game as the Matadors went on to a 2-0 victory over HBU in the opening game of a four-game series Friday at Matador Field.
Senior shortstop
Louie Payetta and senior designated hitter
Austin Saenz each doubled for the Huskies (10-7).
Junior righthander
Addison Russ (3-1) took a tough loss, allowing one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in seven innings. Redshirt freshman
Zach Carter allowed an unearned run in one inning of work.
Berry went 2-for-3, while Yusuke Akitoshi went 2-for-4 for the Matadors (15-3), who extended their winning streak to 10 games. Justin Toerner tripled and Elias Orona singled and scored a run.
