Live StatsHOUSTON – The HBU softball team closes their three-game home stand with a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday, March 1 at 2 p.m. from Husky Field.
HBU leads the all-time series, 43-2. The Huskies and Lady Panthers were scheduled to play a doubleheader last season in Prairie View, but the games were washed out.
HBU (6-3) won its home opener, 5-1, over visiting Texas Southern on Saturday. Senior
Laci Belovsky earned the win in the circle and helped herself at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman
Brooke Bushman hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth for some insurance.
On the season, freshman
Savana Guidry leads the team with a .462 (12-for-26) batting average, followed by a .444 mark for Belovsky. Freshman
Demi Janak is tops with nine RBI while Belovsky has six and both senior
Caitlin Gunn and sophomore
Libby Brown follow with five apiece. In the circle, senior
Shannon O'Connor has a staff-best 2.67 ERA, while Belovsky has a 4-1 record, three complete games, and 12 strikeouts while posting a 3.54 ERA.
Prairie View A&M (0-6) has not played since a 6-2 and 5-4 doubleheader setback at Sam Houston State on Feb. 19. Daneisha Hinton is batting .500 (7-for-14) with a double and an RBI. Destinee Williams leads the Lady Panthers with five RBI. PVAMU has used five pitchers in the circle. Ashley Higgins has started a staff-high three games and has two complete games.
Following the doubleheader HBU heads north to compete in the North Texas Mean Green Spring Fling in Denton, Texas, from March 4-6.
