WACO, Texas – Second-ranked Baylor outscored HBU, 76-14, in the paint and went on to a 118-43 victory over the Huskies in the women's basketball season-opener Friday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.

Amanda Johnson hit three 3-pointers and led HBU (0-1) with 10 points, while senior guard
Heidi Byrd and freshman guard
Sophie Taylor each scored eight. Freshman forward
Taylor Kollmorgen led the Huskies on the glass with seven rebounds and sophomore guard
Bria Johnson handed out four assists.
Kalani Brown scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds for Baylor (1-0), leading six Lady Bears in double figures. Nina Davis added 18 points and nine rebounds, Alexis Jones scored 16, Beatrice Mompremier had 14 points and seven boards, while Dekeiya Cohen and Natalie Chou each scored 11. Cohen also posted eight rebounds and blocked four shots.
Baylor outrebounded HBU, 62-27, resulting in a 35-6 advantage on second-chance points. The Lady Bears shot 53.7 percent from the field, 35.7 percent (5-of14) from behind the arc and shot 67.6 percent (25-for-37) from the free throw line, while the Huskies shot 25.9 percent from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point range and went 6-for-10 from the line.
The Huskies scored the first basket of the game on a three by Byrd, but Jones hit a three of her own to start an 11-0 run for the Lady Bears. An HBU bucket by Kollmorgen was followed by a 15-0 spurt by Baylor as the Lady Bears led, 32-6, after the first period. Baylor scored the last 18 points of the second to take a 60-12 lead at the break.
Amanda Johnson heated up coming out of the locker room, nailing three 3-pointers and scoring 10 points in the third period for HBU, which scored 19 as a team. The Lady Bears countered by pounding the ball inside to Brown, who scored 16 in the frame to lead Baylor to a 90-31 advantage heading into the final period.
The Huskies return to action and will quickly face its second ranked opponent and Big 12 foe when it takes on #8/6 Texas Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Erwin Center in Austin. HBU hosts Rice in its home opener Saturday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
