HOUSTON – Student-athletes from the HBU men's basketball team visited the second-grade classes at Kolter Elementary School earlier this week.
Huskies
Reveal Chukwujekwu,
Will Gates Jr.,
Terry Harris,
Josh Ibarra,
Colter Lasher,
Stephen O'Suji,
Anthony Odunsi,
Trey Patterson,
Cody Stetler and
Jourdan Stickler, spoke on the importance of academics, work ethic and their individual journeys to HBU, as well as reading popular children's stories to the elementary school students. The Huskies visited five classes in total, addressing roughly 110 kids.
"I am very proud of the type of young men who represent our university and our program," head coach
Ron Cottrell said. "I think it is very important for them to go out into the community and give back. It gives people a window into the type of students we have on our campus. This was a tremendous opportunity for our players to visit those kids and help them understand the importance of an education."
HBU opened practice for the 2015-16 season this week and will play its season opener on Friday, Nov. 13, at New Mexico State.
