HOUSTON –
Kristi O'Brien's score in the 60
th minute tied the match at 1-1. Neither team could get the go-ahead strike, as HBU and Lamar battled to a 1-1 double overtime stalemate Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.
HBU remains unbeaten against Lamar all-time (2-0-3) and in Southland Conference play (1-0-2).
O'Brien scored her fourth goal of the season and the second in as many matches for HBU (2-5-3 overall, 1-0-2 SLC), while
Casey Basso earned her first-collegiate point as she assisted on O'Brien's equalizer.
Allison Abendschein,
Natalie Hager,
Ellee Hall, and
Alessia Dal Monte each took a team-high three shots.
Patty Walrath made four saves to improve to 2-4-2 on the season. There was one team save.
Alejandra Amador scored for Lamar (3-6-1 overall, 1-1-1 SLC), assisted by Jannet Hernandez and Kristin Bos. Bos took a match-high seven shots.
Bailey Fontenot also made four saves in goal, as she improved her record to 3-6-1.
HBU seemed to have taken a 1-0 lead in the 27
th minute, as Hall's shot was blocked, but was redirected to
Connor Ryder, who appeared to have scored, but the Huskies were whistled offside.
In the 38
th minute, Bos took a corner kick, sent a short pass to Hernandez, who turned and passed to Amador at the top of the box, who scored past Walrath to give the Lady Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
Lamar doubled up the Huskies in first-half shots, 12-6, while HBU held a small advantage in corner kicks, 3-2.
In the 60
th minute, following a foul by Lamar, Basso took a free kick near the center circle and sent a beautiful circle into the box. O'Brien headed the ball past Fontenot to knot the match at 1-all.
Lamar came very close to ending things just four minutes into the first overtime period, as Marie Lund took a shot, but was saved by Basso for a team save. Lamar outshot the Huskies, 8-2, in the two overtime periods, as Walrath made three saves.
HBU continues its home stand hosting Stephen F. Austin Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 pm, followed by a 1 pm kickoff Sunday against McNeese State.
