HBU currently holds the sixth and final playoff spot for the Southland Conference Tournament. The tournament will be held May 8-10 in Hammond, La., hosted by Southeastern Louisiana.
TAMUCC lead the all-time series against the Huskies, 14-6, but HBU took two of three games from the Islanders last season in Corpus Christi.
After dropping the first game against Abilene Christian, HBU (19-25 overall, 12-12 SLC) took the next two from the Wildcats by scores of 8-6 and 7-4 to take its second-straight conference series.
Kirsten Schwirtlich's RBI single in the fourth sent the eventual game-winning run home in Sunday's series finale.
K. Schwirtlich leads the conference, and is 57th in the nation, in overall batting average (.408). She is second in conference-only batting average (.448). Schwirtlich is 53-for-130 and leads the Huskies with nine home runs and 35 RBI. She has 11 doubles, which are eight shy of
Shay Orsak's 19, which lead the conference. Orsak's 0.43 doubles per game are tied for second in the nation. She is hitting .381 with four home runs and 29 RBI.
Emily Mueller leads the pitchers with a 3.23 ERA, as she is 7-10 with eight complete games, 43 strikeouts, and 48 walks. Stiefel has struck out a team-best 65 batters.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (15-34 overall, 10-13 SLC) won its third-straight conference series, taking two of three games from Sam Houston State last weekend. The Islanders have won eight of their last 14 games. TAMUCC lost to Houston, 9-4, Wednesday in the Islanders' final home game.
On the season, Valerie Perez leads the team with a .331 batting average, as she has gone 49-for-148 at the plate. She is tops with 11 doubles, six home runs and is second in RBI, with 29. Jamise Jackson, who is hitting .284, leads the Islanders with 33 RBI.
Liz Carter leads the pitching staff with a 4.44 ERA, as she is 12-17 with 19 complete games, four shutouts, 94 strikeouts, and 85 walks.
