HOUSTON – After a road non-conference doubleheader earlier this week, the HBU softball team both returns home and to Southland Conference play this weekend when the Huskies welcome Stephen F. Austin for a three-game series beginning Saturday at Husky Field.

Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 pm, while Sunday's single game is set for a 2 pm start.

SFA leads the all-time series, 16-8, but HBU won both games at home last season, 3-2 and 11-2 in six innings.

HBU (9-16 overall, 5-4 SLC) lost a doubleheader at UTSA Wednesday evening by scores of 10-6 and 12-4 in five innings. Kirsten Schwirtlich and Victoria Granchelli both went deep for the Huskies.

Shay Orsak leads HBU with a .402 batting average, which is seventh-best in the Southland Conference. She is 33-for-82 at the plate with 10 doubles, three home runs, and 20 RBI. Lauren Schwirtlich is hitting .386 with four doubles, two triples, and seven RBI. K. Schwirtlich is leading the team with 22 RBI and is tied with Melissa Herman with five homers, while hitting .364.

Emily Mueller's 3.24 ERA leads the pitching staff, as she is 5-4 with 22 strikeouts and 27 walks. Kendall Stiefel has struck out a staff-best 46 batters.

SFA (14-15 overall, 5-3 SLC) has not played since hosting Northwestern State last weekend and winning the series from the Lady Demons. The Ladyjacks won last Sunday's rubber game, 4-1.

Brittany Lewis leads the team with a .372 batting average, going 32-for-86 at the plate. She has 10 doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 24 RBI. Shalie Day is hitting .360 and has a team-best 25 RBI to go along with eight doubles and six homers. Katelyn Standley leads the Ladyjacks with seven homers and is third with 22 RBI.

Carlie Thomas is 9-7 with a 2.58 ERA in the circle, as she has struck out 112 batters and walked 49. Lewis has struck out 32 with just eight walks.

After the series against SFA, HBU begins a five-game road trip beginning April 5 and 6 with a three-game series at Lamar.
