SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The HBU softball team steps out of Southland Conference play for a doubleheader at UTSA Wednesday. First pitch from Roadrunner Field is set for 4 pm.
UTSA leads the all-time series, 17-4, and won both games last season in Houston.
HBU (9-14) swept a doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana last weekend, outscoring the Lady Lions 27-1 in the process. The Huskies have now won four-straight games.
Shay Orsak hit .636 in the series, going 7-for-11 with six RBI and five runs scored.
Orsak leads the Southland Conference with a .427 average on the season, which is ranked T-58th nationally. She has gone 32-for-75 at the plate. She also leads the team with 10 doubles and 19 RBI. Her 0.43 doubles per game rank her 11th nationally.
Kirsten Schwirtlich (.361) and
Melissa Herman (.254) each have 18 RBI.
Emily Mueller leads the pitching staff with a 2.88 ERA, as she has a 5-3 record.
Kendall Stiefel has struck out a staff-best 46 batters.
UTSA (13-17) stepped out of Conference USA play last Wednesday and defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 3-2. Jade Smith went 2-for-3 for the Roadrunners.
On the season, Megan Low leads UTSA with a .353 batting average, as she has gone 30-for-85 at the plate. She leads the team with 11 home runs and 25 RBI and is tied with Courtney Buchman with six doubles. Jori Fox, who is hitting .243, has 19 RBI.
Nicole Merrill leads the pitching staff with a 3.20 ERA, as she is 4-7. Her 66 strikeouts are behind Kacy Freeze's 72.
After the doubleheader, HBU returns home to resume Southland play against Stephen F. Austin Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 pm, while Sunday's single game starts at 2 pm.
