HOUSTON – After going 1-2 at McNeese State last week, the HBU softball team returns to action this weekend as the Huskies host Southeastern Louisiana for a three-game Southland series beginning Saturday at Husky Field.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 pm, while Sunday's single game is set for a 2 pm start. The Lady Lions lead the all-time series, 8-1, and took all three games from the Huskies last season in Houston.
For the second-straight conference series, HBU (6-14 overall, 2-4 SLC) took the third game after losing the first two. The Huskies defeated McNeese State, 4-2, Thursday, March 13. In that game,
Melissa Herman hit a homer and also had a triple and an RBI single.
Shay Orsak leads the Huskies with a .391 batting average, as she is 25-for-64 at the plate. She has a team-best nine doubles and has 13 RBI.
Kirsten Schwirtlich (.323) and Herman (.264) each have 14 RBI, as Herman has hit a team-high four home runs, while K. Schwirtlich has hit three.
Lauren Schwirtlich is hitting .377 with six doubles.

Emily Mueller has a staff-best 3.19 ERA, as she is 4-3 with 19 strikeouts and 21 walks.
Kendall Stiefel has struck out a team-high 41 batters.
Southeastern Louisiana (9-8 overall, 3-3 SLC) swept a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Golden Lions, 11-3 in six innings and 12-0 in five.
Amanda Livaudais leads the team with a .467 batting average, hitting safely seven times in 15 plate appearances. Amber Sather is hitting .350, going 14-for-40 at the plate. Megan Moore, who is hitting .340, leads the Lady Lions with four homers and 21 RBI.
Taylor Bishop is 3-4 with a 3.75 ERA in the circle. She has struck out 20 batters and walked 11. Tori Stamper has struck out a staff-high 21 batters.
After the series with Southeastern Louisiana, HBU will step out of conference play to play a doubleheader at UTSA on Wednesday, March 26 beginning at 4 pm. The Huskies resume Southland play hosting Stephen F. Austin Saturday and Sunday, March 29 and 30.
