HOUSTON – After starting the 2014 season with nine-straight road games, HBU hosts crosstown rival Texas Southern Tuesday, Feb. 18 in the Huskies' home opener. The single game begins at 3 pm at Husky Field.

HBU leads the all-time series, 49-4. The Huskies and Lady Tigers split the season series in 2013, with each team winning on the other team's home field. Texas Southern won at Husky Field, 8-5, on Feb. 27, while HBU defeated the Lady Tigers, 3-2, on March 5 at Memorial Park.

In its last game, HBU (3-6) took a 3-2 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh, but Eastern Illinois scored two unearned runs to come away with a 4-3 victory to close out the Mardi Gras Classic last Sunday in Monroe, La.

Lauren Schwirtlich and Kay Schroeder each had two hits for the Huskies. Shannon O'Connor threw six innings and got the no-decision. Emily Mueller took the tough loss, as she allowed the winning run in just one-third of an inning.

Shay Orsak continues her torrid start to the season, as she leads the team with a .469 batting average, 15 hits, and five doubles. Kirsten Schwirtlich, who was named to the Mardi Gras All-Tournament Team with Orsak, is hitting .400 with a team-best three home runs.

Emily Mueller leads the pitchers with a 1.70 ERA. She is 2-1 and has struck out 11 and walked just five.

Texas Southern (3-2) has not played since competing in the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament Feb. 7-9. The Lady Tigers' last game was a 2-0 loss to Texas Tech Feb. 9.

TSU swept SWAC Players of the Week honors that week, as Thomasina Garza earned Hitter of the Week and Alaina Stubblefield was named Pitcher of the Week.

Chelsea Guenther leads the team with a .545 batting average, going 6-for-11 with four RBI. Garza is hitting .417 with four RBI, a homer, and a double.

Madison Staton has seen the most action in the circle and is 1-1 with a 1.40 ERA, seven walks, and one strikeout.
