MONROE, La. – HBU softball heads back to the Pelican State to compete in the Mardi Gras Classic this Friday through Sunday, hosted by the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
HBU will play first-time foe Southeast Missouri State Friday (1:15 pm) and Saturday (11 am), then host ULM Saturday afternoon (3:15 pm). The Huskies conclude the tournament against Eastern Illinois Sunday (10 am).
HBU (3-2) took leads in the top of the seventh and top of the eighth, but both times Texas State answered back, as the Bobcats defeated the Huskies, 7-6 in eight innings, Wednesday night in San Marcos.
Three Huskies hit homers in the loss:
Shay Orsak,
Kirsten Schwirtlich, and
Cecilia Bauer. K. Schwirtlich led the Huskies with three hits and two RBI.
Orsak leads the team with a .556 batting average, 10 hits, four doubles, and is tied with K. Schwirtlich with two home runs. K. Schwirtlich is hitting .529 with nine hits and two doubles.
Emily Mueller leads the pitching staff with a 1.40 ERA.
Kendall Stiefel has appeared in four games and is 1-1 with a 2.28 ERA, with 15 strikeouts and four walks.
Southeast Missouri State begins its season at the Mardi Gras Classic. Last season, the Redhawks went 15-33.
ULM went 3-2 at the Auburn Invitational last weekend. Faith Bohack leads the Warhawks with a .438 batting average and seven hits. She and Hollie Letourneau each have two home runs. Samantha Hanby has seen most of the action in the circle and is 2-1 with a 3.29 ERA. She has struck out 14 and walked six.
Eastern Illinois went 2-3 at the Illinois-Chicago Rumble last weekend. Brooke Owens leads the Panthers with a .400 batting average. She and Carly Willert lead the team with six hits. Stephanie Maday is 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA, with 10 walks and 10 strikeouts.
