HOUSTON – Junior midfielder/defender
George Kelley scored early in the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1, but visiting Kansas City added an insurance goal late en route to a 3-1 victory over HBU Friday night at Sorrels Field.
Patrick Toh led HBU (2-11-2 overall, 1-8-0 WAC) with five shots. Kelley led the Huskies with two shots on goal.
Philip Poser made four saves in the loss in goal.
Tato Chiaparro, Nick Cramer, and Austin Wilcox each had three shots for Kansas City (7-8-2 overall, 5-3-1 WAC), while Chiaparro led the team with two shots on goal and two assists. Wilcox, Guerrero Pino, and Clay Stewart scored for the 'Roos. Chris McGaughey made four saves in net.
Kansas City scored twice four minutes apart midway through the first half. Chiaparro passed the ball into the box to Pino, who ringed a shot off the cross bar. The ball found Wilcox, who beat Poser for a 1-0 'Roos lead in the 21
st minute. In the 24
th minute, Chiaparro took a free kick and sent a great ball into the box. Pino flicked the ball past Poser far-side for a 2-0 lead.
UMKC outshot the Huskies, 10-8, in the first half, while each team had two corner kicks.
Kelley gave HBU some life as he scored just five minutes into the second half.
Marc- Anthone sent a beautiful pass up the box and Kelley scored near-side to cut the deficit to 2-1.
The 'Roos got an insurance goal in the 80
th minute from Stewart, as he beat Poser near-side on a cross pass from Broc Cramer.
UMKC outshot HBU, 8-6, in the second half and 18-14 in the match. HBU had two of the three corner kicks in the second half and had a 4-3 advantage in the match.
HBU concludes the regular season Sunday at 1 pm when the Huskies host Air Force. Prior to the match, seniors Toh,
