HOUSTON – Senior forward Natalie Hager tied the match at 1-1 in the 57th minute. Seven minutes later, freshman forward Ellee Hall scored the eventual game winner, as HBU women's soccer ran their unbeaten streak to seven matches (6-0-1) with a 2-1 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.

"After a rough first half, we came out to play in the second half," said HBU head coach Misty Jones. "It was great to secure a win the last game of the regular season and Senior Day. It helps to have good momentum going into the tournament. Our only loss was to undefeated SFA. That is definitely something to be proud of. This team is a hard-working group. I am very proud of their fight."

Hager and Hall registered the big scores for HBU (8-6-4 overall, 7-1-3 SLC), while Rebekah Tovar and Lindsay Matlock earned assists. Hager had a match-high four shots and three shots on goal.

Walrath improved her record to 8-5-3, as she made two saves and allowed one goal. There was one team save, made by Ally Murphy.

Cheyenne Maxwell scored for Southeastern Louisiana (12-7-0 overall, 5-6-0 SLC), while Erin Christ recorded an assist. Kayla Vera took a team-high two shots for the Lady Lions.

Hope Sabadash lost for just the second time all season, as her record dropped to 8-2-0. She made six saves and allowed two goals. There was one team save, made by Jen Babcock.

On SELA's first corner kick of the afternoon, in the 14th minute, the conference's leading scorer, Bri Singh's shot was kicked away by Murphy, keeping the match scoreless.

The Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead on their fourth corner kick, in the 30th minute. Christ passed the ball to Maxwell, who scored top-shelf with Walrath down and out of position.
Shots were even at four-apiece, while SELA had all five corner kick attempts in the first half.

HBU came out with a lot of energy in the second half, eventually outshooting SELA, 10-6.

In the 56th minute, Hager tied the match, as Tovar sent a cross pass into the box that Hager scored near-side for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Huskies had SELA on the ropes at that point, as on the ensuing corner kick just four minutes later, Babcock stopped a shot by Tovar for a team save, keeping the Huskies' lead only one.

In the 63rd minute, seven minutes after Hager's equalizer, HBU took a 2-1 lead, as Matlock sent the ball into the box. The ball was bouncing dangerously in the box until Hall got a foot on it and scored past Sabadash.

HBU played great defense the rest of the match, not allowing the Lady Lions to get any good chances the final 27 minutes of regulation. Alexsis Cable's shot in the waning seconds went high, which was their closest opportunity.

HBU outshot SELA, 15-10, in the match, while corner kicks were 5-3 in favor of the Lady Lions.

With Sam Houston State's 2-0 win over Nicholls, the Bearkats earn the second seed and the first-round bye in the conference playoffs. HBU will be the third seed in the tournament and will have a repeat matchup with Southeastern Louisiana, the sixth seed. The Southland Conference Tournament will be held Nov. 6-9 in Beaumont, Texas.
