HOUSTON – HBU head women's basketball coach,
Donna Finnie, and her staff are proud to announce Amanda Johnson to a National Letter of Intent, their fourth signee for 2015-16.

Johnson is a 6-1 guard from Georgetown, Texas. She is a three-year letterwinner for head coach Rhonda Farney at Georgetown High School and was a member of the 2012-13 Texas 4A State Championship team. She was also a key contributor on last year's team that made it all the way to the state semi-finals. Johnson has an even more decorated resume in the classroom than she does on the court: she currently ranks in the Top 5% of her senior class, scored in the top percentile on the SATs, and was commended in the National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, she has earned Academic All-District honors in each of her first three years of high school. There is no doubt Amanda will make a positive impact at HBU both on the court and in the classroom.
Johnson was an integral part of her club basketball program, playing for the Fury organization for the better part of the last decade, most recently for coach Kris Haney. In an era where it has become common for talented players to jump from one AAU team to another on a whim, Johnson showed tremendous loyalty by playing only for Fury throughout her entire club basketball career. This past season she led the team in scoring averaging 13 points per game and scored a season-high 33 points during the Texas End of Road Showcase. When asked about Johnson's impact on his program, Coach Haney responded, "It has been an absolute pleasure coaching Amanda over the past four years. She has always stepped up to any challenge Her work ethic is unlike anything I have ever seen! She will be greatly missed in our program, but I can't wait to see the positive impact she has not only on the court for the Huskies but the HBU community in general."
The daughter of David and Debbie, Johnson plans to major in biology and intends to continue onto medical school in hopes of becoming a pediatrician. When asked why she chose HBU, Johnson replied, "I loved the strong connection I felt with the coaching staff and the team, the appeal of HBU being a Christian-based University, and the proximity of HBU to my family. Also, I plan on attending medical school and becoming a doctor, so the accessibility to the nearby Texas Medical Center is advantageous."
Coach Finnie has this to say about Amanda's signing: "We were looking for a big shooting guard in this class and obviously wanted the right kind of kid also. To say Amanda fits that description is an understatement.
"When recruiting Amanda, we were all struck by what a great fit for us she was both on the floor and in the classroom. What we really liked about watching Amanda this summer in particular, was her ability to take over games offensively. Her mid range pull up and ability to shoot the three, coupled with her size and length, will allow her to help us immediately. We can already see that she can easily fit into our offense and the length she will add on the defensive end will really help us in our rotations. During this process we all felt so connected to Amanda and then once we met her family on her official visit, it really cemented the feeling of this being a great fit on both ends.
"Amanda is a very mature girl who has serious academic ambitions. It was clear that our pre-med pathway was a key factor for Amanda. We were so impressed with her attitude and determination to further her education and ultimately achieve her goal of attending medical school. Amanda's ambitions aren't just academic, however. She works as hard on developing her game and has played for winning coaches in winning programs. We are thrilled to welcome someone of Amanda's character and ability to HBU."
