SAN ANTONIO – Incarnate Word controlled the clock for 37:41, using a balanced attack, for a 31-8 victory over HBU in Southland Conference football Saturday night at Benson Stadium.

UIW quarterback Breylann McCollum, the half-brother of HBU wide receiver
D'Angelo Wallace, went 16-for-22 for 162 yards and a touchdown and also added 33 rushing yards. Junior Sessions picked up 118 yards on 22 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns for the Cardinals (1-5, 1-2). Casey Jennings made five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. Josh Zellars and Adrian Norwood had eight tackles apiece for UIW.
The Cardinals outgained the Huskies, 357-217. UIW had 179 yards passing and 178 yards rushing, while HBU had 146 yards on the ground and 71 through the air. UIW picked up 27 first downs to 13 for HBU.
HBU received the opening kickoff and moved the ball to the UIW 18 after a 52-yard completion from Baker to Brown. However, a fumbled exchange by Baker and Kelly stopped the drive and the Cardinals took over at the 24. UIW then went on an 11-play, 76-yard drive, which ended with 3-yard touchdown run by Reeves. The Cardinals rushed nine times for 45 yards during the drive, which lasted 5:58.
In the second quarter, UIW scored on a flea-flicker as McCollum connected with Casey Jennings on a 34-yard reception to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead with 4:25 remaining. The Huskies took over with a little more than a remaining in the half, but
Craig Bell fumbled on a questionable reception and Ramon Coto made a 40-yard field goal to extend the Cardinals' lead to 17-0 going into halftime.
After a
David Dunkin punt pinned UIW at their own 5-yard line, the Cardinals chewed up 7:21 with a 14-play, 95-yard drive. Sessions finished off the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run to make the score 24-0 with 1:36 to go in the third.
On HBU's ensuing possession, a Dunkin hit Dolan for an eight-yard pass on a fake punt to keep the drive alive, and Kelly scored on a 16-yard touchdown run off the option. Baker then connected with senior tight end
Kenneth Bibbins on the two-point conversion to make it a two-score game, 24-8. HBU went 78 yards on 16 plays in 7:56 on the drive.
The Cardinals snuffed out the Huskies' final threat with a sack of Baker and took over at the 44-yard line with under four minutes left. Sessions scored for the second time, on a three-yard run for the game's final tally.
The Huskies return to action when they travel to face Central Arkansas Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. in Conway, Ark.
