HOUSTON - Houston Baptist will look for its first conference win of the season, as the Huskies play at NJIT on Sat., Feb. 16 at 1 pm CST from the Fleisher Center.
HBU is 1-6 all-time against the Highlanders, going 0-3 last season, including a 61-42 loss in the Great West Quarterfinals last March in Chicago.
Houston Baptist (4-19, 0-3 GWC) had a game-high 23 points and a career-high 3 treys from Shanice Steenholdt, but the Huskies lost on the road to Lamar, 76-55, on Feb. 13.
Joining Steenholdt in double figures was Tayler Jefferson with 13 points. She also had three 3-pointers. Meghan Shank scored a career-high five points while playing in a career-high 30 minutes.
Kalis Loyd led Lamar with 20 points, while Dominique Edwards scored 15. Carenn Baylor had seven points, six rebounds, four assists, and seven steals.
On the season, Steenholdt leads HBU with 17.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 35 blocks, and 55 steals. Jefferson is second with 9.3 ppg, while leading the Huskies with 34 made 3-pointers, 33% 3-point percentage, and 88% free-throw percentage. Erin McGarrachan is third with 8.8 ppg and second with 6.1 rpg.
NJIT (11-15, 3-2 GWC) had its three-game winning streak snapped by the hands of Utah Valley on Feb. 9, 64-47 in Orem, Utah.
Kimberly Dweck came off the bench to score a team-high 10 points for NJIT, while Rayven Johnson grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Sammie Jensen led Utah Valley with her 15th double-double on the season, with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Tina Doughty scored a game-high 16 points.
On the season, Johnson leads the Highlanders with 15.8 ppg and 10.1 rpg. Uju Nwakwu is second with 7.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Alyssa Albanese leads the team with 67 assists and 32 steals.
