HOUSTON – The HBU women's soccer team scored three times in the first half and added another goal in the second half, as the Huskies shut out visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at HBU's Dunham Field.

The two teams were playing at the future home of Huskies' football, as Sorrels Field was unplayable due to the morning's heavy rain.

HBU wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Rebekah Tovar scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the third minute, assisted by Lindsay Matlock. Matlock sent a beautiful cross pass into the box and Tovar shot it in the upper right part of the net.

The score remained 1-0 until the Huskies scored twice in a ten-minute span. Taylor Gibson gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead, assisted by Kristi O'Brien, in the 34th minute. O'Brien sent a long up-fields pass to Gibson, who beat Islanders keeper Audrey Baldwin in the lower left side.

In the 44th minute, the Huskies were aggressive on an Islander goalkick, as Matlock headed the ensuing kick, found Natalie Hager on the left side, and scored, giving the Huskies a 3-0 lead just before halftime.

HBU played more conservatively in the second half and not allowing the Islanders any momentum. The Huskies' final goal came off the freshmen tandem of O'Brien and Morgan Dean. Dean found O'Brien on the right side of the net, who scored in the lower left side.

HBU outshot Corpus Christi, 15-9, and 10-5 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were tied at three-all.

Stephanie Castellon earned the win in goal and made five saves. Baldwin took the loss for the Islanders, making six saves in 85 minutes. Tori Stephens played the final five minutes of the match.

HBU (5-11-1, 4-6-0 SLC) will play the final home match of the season when the Huskies host Sam Houston State on Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 pm. It will be "Senior Day" for Shelby Horn, Lara Johnson, Molly Missimer, Amina Radoncic, and Chelsea Thornhill.
