Jessica Whitt finished fourth individually to lead Houston Baptist's women to a fourth-place team finish at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash cross country meet Friday at West Guth Park.
Anthony Aguinaga was also a top-10 finisher for the men, taking ninth as the Huskies were fourth.
Whitt traversed the hilly and difficult five-kilometer course in 18:55.7 as the Huskies faced current Great West Conference and future Southland Conference foes. Her twin sister, Jamie, was 19th in 19:56.7 and Halcie Pfeiffer finished 23rd.
Carolyn McClanahan, who prepped at nearby Gregory-Portland High School, placed 27th and freshman
Gabriela Busquet crossed the line in 32nd.
Aguinaga's 27:07.4 on the eight-kilometer circuit put him five spots ahead of teammate
Ulysses Montoya, who placed 14th. Other scorers for the Huskies were
Javier Zamora (26th),
Richard Munoz (42nd) and
Davis Badger (44th).
Host TAMUCC took both team trophies ahead of Central Arkansas, with UT-Pan American third. HBU finished only seven points behind UTPA's women and eight behind the Broncs' men.
Edward Limo of Central Arkansas captured the men's individual gold in 25:44.3, and UTPA's Judith Chumba was the women's winner at 18:02.
