Hedden Post-Match Interview (video)
HOUSTON – After a scoreless first half, visiting Stephen F. Austin scored two second-half goals to shut out Houston Baptist, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.
SFA, one of the nation's highest-scoring teams, was held below its season average of four goals-a-game by the Huskies.
The Huskies played the Ladyjacks tough in the opening half, outshooting SFA 5-3 in shots on goal.
Cindy Hedden had two quality scoring chances, but could not solve the Ladyjack keeper.
SFA broke the scoreless tie with a goal just over a minute into the second half as Chelsea Raymond scored, assisted by Melissa Gaudet. Gaudet sent a long pass to Raymond, who beat
Shelby Horn to her left.
The Ladyjacks increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Laura Sadler, assisted by Kylie Louw, in the 64th minute. Louw sent a centering pass to Sadler, who hit the top right part of the goal.
SFA outshot HBU 18-9 in the match, including 11-3 in the second half. The Ladyjacks had 14 corner kicks to HBU's one.
Horn suffered the loss in goal for the Huskies, as she made seven saves. She made some fantastic second-half saves to keep the Huskies in the match. Lacey Lee earned the win for SFA, making six saves.
HBU (2-3-1) will hit the road next weekend at Northwestern State on Sept. 7 at 7 pm and Lamar on Sept. 9 at 2 pm.
