Heather Leaverton recorded her third double-double in five matches, but the Huskies fell to host Louisiana, 3-1 (20-25, 30-28, 11-25, 21-25) in the opener of the Bon Temps Invitational Friday afternoon at Earl K. Long Gym.
Leaverton had 13 kills and 14 digs, while senior setter
Victoria Weatherly also had a double-double with 35 assists and 15 digs. Sophomore middle blocker
Madeline Gaffney had nine kills and four blocks, and junior middle blocker
Caiti Wenger also posted nine kills. Sophomore libero
Esther Longoria led the Huskies (3-2) defensively with 16 digs, and sophomore outside hitter
Jasmine Casey had six kills and 11 digs.
Louisiana setter Mandi Gavin recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 11 digs, 45 assists and seven blocks. Andrea Hole had 18 kills and 11 digs, while Lavinia Tataran had 13 kills and 10 digs. Tonice White added 11 kills, eight blocks and six digs. Caitlyn Auxilien had 19 digs for the Ragin' Cajuns (2-2).
The Ragin' Cajuns hit .272 for the match, while holding the Huskies to .118. Louisiana also outdug HBU, 76-69, held a 10-5 advantage in blocks and 9-3 in service aces.
The Huskies return wrap up play at the tournament when they face Southern Mississippi Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by future Southland Conference rival McNeese State at 2 p.m.
