Postmatch Interview with Madeline Gaffney (video)
HOUSTON – Houston Baptist sophomore middle blocker 
Madeline Gaffney hit .500 with 11 kills and five blocks to lead the Huskies to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-11, 25-10) sweep of Prairie View A&M in non-conference volleyball Tuesday night at Sharp Gym.
 
Senior setter 
Victoria Weatherly paced the Huskies (3-1) to a .419 team hitting percentage for the match and recorded a double-double with 40 assists, 11 digs, three kills, a block and a service ace. Freshman outside hitter 
Haley Mueller, junior middle blocker 
Caiti Wenger and sophomore outside hitter 
Bailey Keith each had eight kills. Mueller added seven digs, while Wenger had six blocks and Keith had chipped in with four. Senior outside hitter 
Heather Leaverton posted seven kills without an error, nine digs, five blocks and two aces.
 
Bruna Menezes led Prairie View A&M (0-4) with six kills, while Rachel Owens had four. Shanice Faison had 12 digs, and Breanna McNeil had seven.
 
The Huskies scored six-straight points to jump out to a 14-4 lead in the first set. HBU cruised to a 25-12 victory in the frame, led by five kills from Mueller.
 
HBU took an 11-4 lead in the second, and later scored five-straight points to extend their advantage to 20-7. Keith had four kills in the set as the Huskies took a 2-0 lead with a 25-11 decision.
 
The Huskies scored four of the first five points of the third, then used a six-point run, including back-to-back kills and a solo block by Gaffney, to take an 18-6 lead. HBU scored three-straight points to lead 22-8, then the last three to clinch the match, 25-10. Gaffney led the Huskies with five kills.
 
HBU held Prairie View A&M to a .000 hitting percentage for the match. The Huskies outdug the Panthers, 49-37, outblocked them, 11-3, and held an 8-1 advantage in aces.
 
The Huskies return to action this weekend at the Bon Temps Invitational in Lafayette, La. HBU faces Southern Mississippi Friday at 9 a.m., followed by host Louisiana at 3 p.m. The Huskies conclude the tournament against future Southland Conference foe McNeese State Saturday at 10 a.m.
