Softball Home For Six of Next Nine Games

Huskies to play nine games in nine days

HOUSTON – The Houston Baptist softball team hits a busy stretch of its schedule, as the Huskies play nine games in the next nine days, beginning with a doubleheader at Sam Houston State on Tue., Apr. 3 beginning at 4 pm.

Following the DH against the Bearkats, the Huskies return home for a season-high six-game home stand, beginning with a DH against UTSA on Wed., Apr. 4 at 2 pm. HBU will host DHs against Prairie View A&M and Stephen F. Austin on Apr. 10 and 11, respectively, before concluding the stretch with a single road game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Apr. 12, which was rescheduled from Mar. 27.

HBU (11-18) is led at the plate by Melissa Herman, with a .337 batting average. She leads the Huskies with 16 RBI, is tied for the team lead with four doubles, and is second with 30 hits. Daniella Rodarte leads the team with 32 hits, while Kate Maddock has four of the Huskies' seven home runs.

In the circle, Kendall Stiefel leads with a 1.98 ERA, as she and Keely have four wins apiece. Sarah Shotton leads the Huskies with 55 strikeouts, while Stiefel and Beth Evans have each walked a team-low four batters.

Sam Houston State (12-15) swept its second-straight doubleheader, as the Bearkats swept Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State.

The Bearkats are led at the plate by Kim Damian with a .360 average, followed by Tori Benavidez with a .345 average. Damian leads SHSU with 31 hits, 19 RBI, six doubles, and is tied for the team lead with six home runs.

Tomi Garrison leads the pitching staff with a 3.49 ERA, striking out a team-high 55 batters.

UTSA (13-18) swept a home doubleheader against Northwestern State on Mar. 30 and 31.

Courtney Buchman leads the Roadrunners with a .391 batting average, followed by Megan Low with a .378 average. Low leads the team in just about every category: hits (37), doubles (7), home runs (5) and RBI (21).

Haylee Staton leads the pitchers with a 3.27 ERA. She has struck out 72 batters in 93.0 innings.
