JACKSON, Miss. – Houston Baptist softball hit the road for a three-game series at Jackson State. The Huskies split today's doubleheader, defeating the Lady Tigers, 6-3, in game one, and losing game 2, 3-2, Friday evening from the JSU Softball Complex.

In game one, HBU got on the scoreboard first with a single run in the top of the first on an RBI double by Kate Maddock, scoring Rebecca Rademacher, who started the game with a single.

The Huskies erupted for four second-inning runs to lead the Lady Tigers, 5-0. Following three walks, Daniella Rodarte made JSU hurler Breea Jamerson pay with the free passes, as she cleared the bases with a triple. Jasmine Warren replaced Jamerson and gave up an RBI single by Maddock, bringing home Rodarte.

JSU made the score 5-1 in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer by Sabeana Romero.

There was no scoring until the top of the fifth after a Rebecca Rademacher RBI single brought home Michaela Granchelli, who led off the inning with a single.

JSU scored twice in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run double by Warren. The Lady Tigers could get no closer, as they went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Rodarte only went 1-for-5 in the game, but her lone hit was a bit one, as she led the Huskies with three RBI. The Huskies had 12 hits, led by Rademacher, Maddock, Melissa Herman, M. Granchelli and Holly Webb with two hits apiece.

Beth Evans went the distance, allowing six hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out six.

Amanda Vasquez led JSU with two hits, going 2-for-3, while Warren was tops with two RBI.

Jamerson took the loss, giving up three hits, four earned runs and three walks in just 1.1. Warren pitched the remaining 5.2, giving up nine hits, one earned run and one walk while striking out three.

In game two, JSU scored a single run in the bottom of the second and fourth innings to build a 2-0 lead. The Huskies tied the game in the top of the sixth, as Maddock led off the inning with a double to left. Herman singled, bringing home Maddock, as Herman advanced to second on the throw home. After advancing to third on a dropped fly ball, she crossed home on a wild pitch, knotting the score at two apiece.

But JSU would take the lead and eventually the game with a single run in the bottom half of the inning, as Ariel Siegel led off the inning reaching base on an error and advancing all the way to third. She later scored on a fielder's choice bunt by Janell Plaza.

The Huskies were in business to tie or take the lead in the top of the seventh, as Herman struck out, but reached first safely following a passed ball, loading the bases with two outs. But LeEthel Guillory got a fly out to end the game.
Maddock led HBU by going 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Herman had the lone RBI.

Kendall Stiefel went the distance, taking the loss. She allowed three hits and two earned runs, while walking three and striking out four.

Three Lady Tigers had a hit. Guillory earned the win, also going the distance. She gave up seven hits, one earned run and one walk while whiffing seven.

HBU (7-10) and Jackson State (12-11) will conclude the weekend series with a single game at 11 am on Saturday. You can listen to the game live via the Husky Sports Radio Network.
