HOUSTON – Houston Baptist swept a doubleheader from visiting Texas Southern, 3-2 and 9-0 in five innings, Friday afternoon from Husky Field.

In game one, TSU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. The Tigers had runners at second and third with nobody out, but Sarah Shotton pitched out of a jam, only allowing the one unearned run to cross home.

In the bottom of the second, HBU had runners at first and second following two free passes. Mac Christensen advanced both runners 60 feet following a sac bunt. The next batter, Holly Webb hit a sac fly, scoring Kate Maddock and tying the game at 1-1. Michaela Granchelli hit an RBI double to right field to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth. Rebecca Rademacher started the inning with a single and advanced to second on a Daniella Rodarte sac bunt. With two outs, Melissa Herman hit the ball up the middle, which the shortstop dove and stopped. She threw home, trying to throw out Rademacher, but Rademacher slid under the tag to give HBU a 3-1 lead.

TSU got that run back the next half inning, as the Tigers had runners at second and third following a single and a double. Tenesha Skrine hit a sac fly to make the score 3-2.

TSU went 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to end the game.

HBU was held to just four hits, but made them count, as Rademacher and M. Granchelli went 1-for-3 and Rodarte and Herman went 1-for-2. Herman, Webb, and M. Granchelli each had one RBI.

Shotton went the distance, improving her record to 2-1. She allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Katei Statonik went 2-for-3 for the Tigers, while Yesenia Torres and Jessica Miller each had an RBI.

Jeniece Tillman also pitched a complete game for TSU, allowing four hits, three earned runs and four walks.

In game two, HBU scored one run in the bottom of the first, two in the second and erupted for six third-inning runs for the five-inning second game.

In the bottom of the first, Rademacher singled, advanced to second on a Rodarte sac bunt, then scored on a single up the middle by Victoria Granchelli.

With one out in the bottom of the second, M. Granchelli singled to right field, advanced to second on an error, then scored following an RBI single by Rademacher. Rademacher later scored herself on an RBI single by V. Granchelli.

In the six-run third inning, the Huskies brought 11 people to the plate. The Huskies had the bases loaded and just one walk when Webb reached base safely on a fielder's choice sac bunt. One batter later, Rademacher walked, bringing home Christensen. V. Granchelli walked, bringing home another run. Herman hit a bases-clearing triple.

TSU tried to continue the game in the bottom of the fifth, with runners on second and third with nobody out. But Keely Shuler got two groundouts and a strikeout to earn the shutout win.

Herman and V. Granchelli each had three RBI for the Huskies, while Rademacher went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. M. Granchelli went 3-for-3.

Shuler improved her record to 2-1, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out two.
