Softball Heads to Florida This Weekend for Rebel Spring Games

Huskies to play six games in the Sunshine State

HOUSTON – Houston Baptist hits the road today to head to Kissimmee, Fla., to participate in the Rebel Spring Games. The Huskies will play four games in Kissimmee, then conclude the Florida trip with a doubleheader at Stetson on Sunday.

HBU begins the RSG on Thu., Mar. 15 against Army at 12 pm, followed by a match-up against St. Peter's at 2 pm. The Huskies face Columbia and Fairleigh Dickinson on Fri., Mar. 16 at 10 am and 12 pm, respectively.

Before heading home, HBU heads to DeLand, Fla., to play a doubleheader at Stetson on Sun., Mar. 18, beginning at 12 pm. All times are central. The Huskies and Hatters have not faced each other since Mar. 19, 2009, where Stetson swept a doubleheader at home against the Huskies, 5-0 and 2-0.

HBU (7-11) is led at the plate by Michaela Granchelli with a .352 batting average. Daniella Rodarte leads the team with 21 hits, while Kate Maddock leads with two home runs. Melissa Herman is tops with 13 RBI.

In the circle, Kendall Stiefel and Beth Evans both lead HBU with a 2.33 ERA. Keely Shuler has walked a team-low four batters, while Sarah Shotton has struck out a team-high 35 opponents.

Army (7-8) is 1-3 so far at the RSG, defeating Akron, 5-0. The Black Knights are led at the plate by Jules Steurer with a .500 batting average (4-for-8). Alexis AuBuchon leads Army with 15 hits, while Marina Northup, Reanna Johnson and Rachael Duval each lead with five RBI.

In the circle, Morgan Lashley leads with a 3.76 ERA. Her control has hurt her, as she has walked 33 batters, but have also struck out a team-high 42.

St. Peter's (0-9) has gone 0-2 at the RSG. The Peahens are led at the plate by Krystine Rice with a .313 average. She also leads with five hits and two doubles. As a team, St. Peter's is hitting just .144.

Erica Colon leads St. Peter's in the circle with a 6.23 ERA. Shelby Beaver has struck out a team-high six batters.

Columbia (2-9) has gone 1-3 at the RSG, defeating Wagner, 9-0 in six innings. Jennifer Bergeron leads the Lions with a .444 batting average and 12 hits. Four of Emily Snodgrass' five hits have been doubles. Liz Caggiano and Kalli Schultea both lead with five RBI.

Brooke Darling has a team-best 4.55 ERA, as she has struck out a team-high 20 batters.

Fairleigh Dickinson (10-3) has gone 4-3 at the RSG, defeating Bucknell, Manhattan and Cleveland State. Caitlin Bradac leads the Knights with a .514 batting average, going 18-for-35 at the plate. She also leads the team with seven doubles and 15 RBI.

In the circle, Megan Reiner leads FDU with a 1.35 ERA, walking just six and striking out 30.

Stetson (12-7) split at the Stetson Classic on Mar. 9, defeating Northern Colorado, 6-0, and losing to Ball State, 4-1.
Chelsey Trotto leads the Hatters with a .347 batting average, leading with 17 hits and four home runs. Brittany Knipp leads the team with 12 RBI.

Meredith Owen leads the Hatters in the circle with a 1.23 ERA, walking 18 and striking out 75 in just 78.2 innings.

After the Florida trip, HBU hosts Texas State in a single game on Wed., Mar. 21 at 3 pm.
