OREM, Utah – Houston Baptist fought an extremely hard-fought game, but the bench and the altitude were just too much for the Huskies, in a 71-36 loss at Utah Valley Tuesday afternoon from the Activity Center.

The Huskies started the game with just six players and played with just five with about five minutes remaining due to an injury.

Devyn Weymouth led HBU (1-25, 0-9 GWC) with 10 points, followed by Joselyn Pugh with eight points. Maisie Elston led with five rebounds.

Sammie Jensen led Utah Valley (14-13, 6-3 GWC) with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Taylor Huber scored a game-high 16 points as she was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Utah Valley scored the game's first four points before the Huskies rattled off five straight on a jumper by Pugh and a three-pointer by Weymouth, as HBU led UVU 5-4 with 16:46 remaining in the first half.

The Wolverines scored four-straight points to take an 8-5 lead, but the Huskies tied the game on a three-pointer by Brittany Barton, as the two teams were knotted at 8-8 with 14:21 left in the first half.

The two teams battled back and forth, with two ties in a span of two minutes, before a three by Taylor Huber gave Utah Valley a seven-point lead, at 23-16, prompting an HBU timeout with 7:45 left in the half.

The Huskies brought it down to nine following an offensive rebound and a layup by Elston, but the Wolverines closed out the first half on an 8-0 run to lead 38-21 at the break.

Weymouth led HBU at halftime with eight points, going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, followed by Pugh with five points. The Huskies shot 39 percent from the floor and 42 percent from beyond the arc. Huber led UVU with eight points, while Sammie Jensen led with seven rebounds. UVU shot 46 percent from the floor and 29 percent from beyond the arc.

UVU started the second half on a 12-0 run to lead 50-21, before the Huskies got on the board with a Pugh free throw at the 13:38-mark. The Huskies scored their first basket with a three-pointer by Lauren Bozeman, as UVU led 50-25 with 12:46 remaining.

Utah Valley controlled the entire second half, as the Huskies were held to just 15 second-half points.

Mollye Mlcak scored her first collegiate points, as she went 2-for-2 from the line.

HBU will conclude the regular season at UT-Pan American on Sat., Mar. 3 at 7 pm.
