HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston State hit .270 for the match, while limiting Houston Baptist to an .084 percentage as the Bearkats swept the Huskies, 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-14) in non-conference volleyball Tuesday night at Johnson Coliseum.

Madeline Gaffney led the Huskies (12-10) with nine kills and three blocks, while sophomore outside hitter
Jasmine Casey added seven kills and 15 digs. Senior setter

Devene Wells-Gibson led Sam Houston State (11-9) with 12 kills, 11 digs and four blocks, while Haley Neisler had 11 kills and Kendall Cleveland had 10 kills and 10 digs. Tayler Gray notched 38 assists and 13 digs. Kaylee Hawkins also had double-figure digs with 11, while Kim Black posted six blocks.
The Bearkats outdug the Huskies, 59-51, and outblocked them, 7.5-3, and held a 9-1 advantage in service aces.
The Bearkats scored five-straight points to take an 8-2 lead in the first set, then extended their advantage to eight at 12-4. HBU would not get closer than five points the rest of the way as Sam Houston State took the first set, 25-19. Gaffney led the Huskies with five kills on six attempts in the frame, while Wells-Gibson had seven for the Bearkats.
Sam Houston State scored the first five points of the second set, but HBU answered to cut the deficit to 7-6. The Bearkats rebounded to build a four-point cushion, then scored three-straight to take a 22-15 lead. The Huskies scored the next three to get back within four, but the Bearkats held on for a 25-19 decision to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bearkats scored the first five points of the third to once again take a quick lead, then later scored four in a row to push their lead to 12-4. The Bearkats went ahead by 10 at 20-10, then closed out the match by a score of 25-14.
The Huskies return to Great West Conference play when they host Chicago State on Dig Pink Night Thursday at 7 p.m. at Sharp Gym.
