SEATTLE, Wash. – Houston Baptist's playoffs hopes were hit slightly by host Seattle University, as the Redhawks defeated the Huskies, 2-1, Friday afternoon at Championship Field.

HBU needed to win its final three matches, or hope that UNLV does not win its final two, to reach the MPSF playoffs.

All three goals this afternoon came in a span of eight minutes. After a scoreless first half, Seattle struck first in the 56th minute, as Miguel Gonzalez scored on a penalty kick, as he was fouled inside the box 10 yards out.

The Huskies tied the match at one just three minutes later, as Zach Pierce scored, assisted by Mark Gendi. After a foul on Seattle, Gendi took the free kick and Pierce kicked the ball into the back of the net 30 yards out.

In the 63rd minute, Seattle took a 2-1 lead when Michael Roberts scored, assisted by Marshall Kosaka and Chase Hanson. Hanson passed the ball up the field to Kosaka, who sent a centering pass into the box. Roberts headed the ball past Zach Harwerth to give the Redhawks back the lead.

HBU had opportunities to tie the match, as Pierce's shot in the 80th minute sailed high and Christian Cruz' s shot with 41 seconds left in the match went wide.

Kristopher Tyrpak led HBU with four shot attempts, while Pierce had three and Cruz had two. Pierce, Tyrpak, and Kyle Herbison each had a shot on goal.

Kyle Harwerth took the loss in goal for the Huskies, allowing two goals while making one save.

Gonzalez led Seattle (3-11-1, 1-6-1 MPSF Pac. Div.) with four shot attempts, while he, Austin Sweeney, and Roberts each had a shot on goal.

Jake Feener earned the win between the pipes for the Redhawks, as he made two saves while allowing one goal.

HBU (4-8-2, 2-4-2 MPSF Mtn. Div.) is now a fan of Air Force, as the Falcons play at UNLV tonight at 7 pm PST. The Huskies are still one point behind UNLV for the final playoff spot. The Huskies play at San Jose State Sunday at 3 pm central time.
