HOUSTON – Houston Baptist scored two second-half goals to defeat visiting Northwestern State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Sorrels Field.

Brandi Hart and Mandi Folger each scored goals for HBU. The goal was Folger's first collegiate. Arielle Rodriguez recorded two assists, while Molly Missimer and Kristina Burhans each had one.

Stephanie Castellon earned her first collegiate win in goal, making one save.

Yanci Johnson led the Lady Demons with three shots. Reigning Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, Jessica Danku, took the loss, allowing two goals and making three saves.

The two teams entered halftime deadlocked at zero on a very windy day in Houston. NSU doubled HBU in shots in the opening half, 4-2.

Hart ended the tie in the 71st minute, assisted by Missimer and Rodriguez. Hart raced up the middle and shot the ball past Danku into the net.

In the 83rd minute, Folger scored, assisted by Burhans and Rodriguez. Rodriguez passed the ball up the left side to Burhans, who found a wide open Folger in the middle of the box.

“Our effort in the second half brought a lot more dangerous opportunities,” said Hart. “We didn't want to leave the field with a loss.” The win over NSU snapped the Lady Demons' three-match winning streak.

HBU (3-3-0), winners of two straight, will look for its road win of the season at Grambling State on Sept. 9 at 4 pm.
