EL PASO, Texas – The HBU softball team doubled up UTEP, 6-3, Sunday afternoon in the rubber match of the three-game series.
UTEP got one run back in the bottom of the first, as Chelsea Troupe started the inning with a walk and scored on an RBI double by Kayleigh Walts.
HBU added two more runs in the top of the second to lead, 4-1, through one and a half innings.
Mac Christensen started the inning with a double to left field. After a pitching change, Christensen advanced to third on a grounder by
Kate Maddock. The very next batter,
Jaymie Heibel doubled, bringing home Christensen. After advancing to third on a passed ball, Heibel scored on a single by
Daniella Rodarte.
HBU scored a single run in the top of the third, as Mlcak homered to right field.
Nobody scored until the top of the sixth, as HBU scored once, to lead, 6-1. Maddock singled, stole second, advanced to third on a single by Rademacher and scored on an error.
UTEP scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit in half, 6-3. Kayla Black singled and scored on a two-run home run by Kia Moore.
Both Rademacher and Mlcak went 2-for-4 for HBU. Rodarte and Herrington each had two RBI.
Kendall Stiefel went the distance, allowing six hits, three earned runs and six walks while striking out three.
Six different Miners had a hit each. Moore had two of the three RBI. Laura Ramos took the loss, as she allowed four hits, three earned runs while striking out one in 1.0+ innings.
HBU (4-4) hosts Stephen F. Austin State in a single game on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 2pm at Husky Field.
