Texada, Griciunaite record career highs in double-doubles

HOUSTON – Sophomore forward Destini Texada and senior post Ernesta Griciunaite each set career-highs in points and rebounds as they both recorded double-doubles as the HBU Huskies defeated visiting Wiley, 77-48, Tuesday evening in Sharp Gym.

The Huskies entered halftime leading the Wildcats, 36-32, as the Huskies shot 50 percent from the floor (13-of-26) compared to Wiley's 43 percent. Both Griciunaite and Texada nearly had double-doubles at the half as Texada scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds and Griciunaite had eight points and seven rebounds. The Wildcats' scoring came off the hands of Brittany Smith-Banks and Christina Kincade, who scored 10 points apiece.

HBU outscored the Wildcats, 41-16, in the second half. Wiley came within two points of HBU twice early in the second half. After Destiney McVea made two free throws to cut the Husky lead to seven, at 47-40, HBU pulled away, outscoring Wiley 23-2 in a span of eight minutes to lead 70-43.

Texada scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds. Griciunaite set new career marks with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Brittany Barton tied a career best with 12 points. Smith-Banks was held to just five second-half points as she led Wiley with 15 points. Kincade was shut out in the second half as she was second on the team with 10 points. The leading rebounder for the Wildcats was Aida Mbaye with five boards.

HBU (1-7) will get some rest before embarking on a three-game road trip, beginning with a 2 pm tip at Sam Houston State on Dec. 11, before returning home to face Texas Southern at TSU at 5 pm on the 12th.
