HOUSTON – Houston Bapist junior post Jamie Spriggs scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds as the Huskies lost, 73-58, to Henderson State in exhibition play Tuesday night at Sharp Gym.
Senior guard Tia Jackson scored nine and dished out five assists, while sophomore forward Destini Texada scored eight points for the Huskies.
Nyesha Adams scored a game-high 15 points for Henderson State. Gianna Woods scored 13, while Krissica Harper and Christina Hall each scored 10. Harper also added nine assists and Janisha Young grabbed eight boards for the Lady Reddies.
The Huskies led by as many as eight twice in the first half, at the 10:33 mark after senior post Ernesta Griciunaite's 3-pointer, and again with 2:27 left. HBU led, 32-26, at the break.
In the second half, Henderson State shot 53.3 percent from the field, while holding HBU to 30.4 percent. The Lady Reddies made a run and took the lead at 42-41 with 13:51 left in the game. The Huskies took the lead right back on a 3-pointer by Jackson on the ensuing possession. Henderson State tied the game again at 47 on a jumper by Adams and took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Hall with 10:05 remaining.
The Lady Reddies then ended the game on a 23-9 run to close out the Huskies.
HBU faces TCU on the road in the regular-season opener Nov. 12 in Fort Worth, Texas.
