Portland Defeats HBU

HOUSTON – Three Huskies finished in double-figures, but it was the Portland Pilots who left the gym with the victory, defeating HBU, 80-59, on the final day of the Husky Classic Saturday evening.

Portland jumped out to a 44-30 halftime lead and outscored the Huskies 36-29 in the second half.

The Huskies had a better shooting percentage in the first half and shot 41 percent from the floor in the game, but the Pilots scored 22 points off of 26 Husky turnovers.

Three Huskies finished the game in double figures, led by Brittany Barton with 12. Destini Texada finished the game with 10 and Megan Green came off the bench to score 10. Texada and Ernesta Griciunaite tied for the game-high with seven rebounds.

Portland had four players finish in double figures, led by Natalie Day with 16. Cassandra Brown scored 11 and Alexis Gannis and Nakeisha Brown each added 10. Gannis, Lauren Angel and Jessica Clemens each grabbed seven rebounds.

HBU (0-7) will conclude the three-game home stand against Red River Athletic Conference member, Wiley College, on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 6 pm.
