MOREHEAD, Ky. – The HBU women's basketball team lost against host Morehead State, 71-50, Saturday evening at MSU's Johnson Arena.
Morehead State started out on a 6-0 run before the Huskies got on the board with a Destini Texada layup entering the first media timeout. The Eagles increased their lead to 13-6 entering the second media timeout.
At the half, MSU led HBU 34-18. Four players led the Huskies with four points apiece: Texada, Joselyn Pugh, Brittany Barton and Jamie Spriggs. Ernesta Griciunaite led the Huskies with four rebounds. For the Eagles, Allie Turner scored nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Channing Hillman had a half-high six rebounds. MSU had 16 steals in the first half as the Huskies had 24 turnovers resulting in 22 Eagle points.
Morehead State led 41-20 entering the first media timeout of the second half as they outscored the Huskies 7-2. The Eagles led the Huskies 49-25 at the midway point of the second half. At the final media timeout of the second half, MSU led HBU 64-41 as the Eagles relied on the long ball, hitting two and nine overall.
Spriggs came off the bench to score 20 points, followed by Texada with 11. Griciunaite grabbed nine rebounds. For MSU, Channing Hillman scored 16 points as Allie Turner scored 12, hitting four 3-pointers. On the boards, Hillman had eight rebounds. The Eagles forced 40 Husky turnovers, 22 of which were steals.
HBU (0-4) will conclude the Comfort Inn and Suites Invitational with an 11 am Sunday tip-off against Central Arkansas.
