Women's Basketball 9/4/2009 12:00:00 AM HBU Releases 2009-10 Schedule Huskies enjoy 15 games in the comfort of Sharp Gym HOUSTON - HBU head women's basketball coach Todd Buchanan has announced his team's 2009-10 schedule, which features 15 games at Sharp Gym and two tournaments in the team's first season in the Great West Conference.November will be a busy month at Sharp as the Huskies have six games at home. HBU starts off the season hosting ACC member Duke on November 13. After a game at TCU on the 15th, the Huskies are home the next seven games, including a meeting against the Pac 10's Oregon State on November 22. “I am extremely excited about our schedule in general as well as elated to be playing at home 15 times,” said Buchanan. “I am thankful and grateful specifically to Duke and Oregon State, for that caliber of a program to be willing to play here.”The Huskies will be part of two tournaments this season. HBU will play Louisiana-Lafayette and either LSU or North Carolina A&T in the Sue Gunter Classic at LSU on December 15-16. They will compete in the South Florida Classic on December 19-20, facing East Carolina the first day, then either South Florida or North Carolina Central the following day before breaking for Christmas.“Before Christmas, we have members of the ACC, Mountain West, Pac 10, SEC and Big East on our schedule,” said Buchanan.HBU's schedule features eight teams who have made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament: Duke (last appearance in 2009), TCU (2009), Oregon StateStephen F. Austin State (2006), LSU (2009), East Carolina (2007) and UT-Arlington (2006). (1996), Oral Roberts (2008), The Huskies return from the Christmas break to host UT-Arlington on December 30. They hit the road for a game at Central Arkansas on January 5 before beginning conference play.January features four home games, all against GWC opponents, starting with Chicago State on January 14. February then opens with four consecutive road games before the Huskies return home for their final home games of the season, February 25 against Utah Valley and the 27th against UTPA. HBU will close out the regular season with a trip to North Dakota on March 4 and then South Dakota on March 6.Utah Valley hosts the 2010 Great West Conference tournament on March 10-13. “A full Great West schedule and to play in a conference tournament is a breath of fresh air and very rewarding for our players and all our sports.
