DESTIN, Fla. – HCU men's golf, playing in its first tournament under new head coach Chad Marti, stands tied for eighth in a 14-team field following the opening round of the Sandestin Collegiate Classic hosted by Texas State at Sandestin Resort & Club.
Through the first 18, the Huskies are sitting at even par as a team in a tie with UT Arlington. HCU is nine strokes behind the leaders from Louisiana and just four strokes out of the top three.
Freshman
Rhett Turner paced the Huskies on day one, firing a two-under-par 68 in his first collegiate round. Closing out the day tied for 12
th individually, Turner recorded six birdies on the day with three of those coming across his final five holes of the day.
Hudson Hobbs, a sophomore, carded an even-par 70 with a pair of birdies in his round.
Cooper Camp and
Robert Gonzalez both finished the day at 71 to round out the team's scoring.
The Huskies will tee off for round two on Tuesday, Sept. 15, morning at 8:00 a.m. CT.
