HOUSTON – HCU women's soccer controlled much of its Thursday evening matchup against Louisiana Tech but fell, 1-0, in a hard-luck loss in non-conference play.
The Huskies (1-2-1) out-shot Louisiana Tech (1-2-1) by a 15-8 margin with 12 shots on goal to the visitors' two. Additionally, HCU earned eight corners while conceding just two to the Bulldogs.
HCU had shots from Isabella Alamo, Zylee Dominguez and Paisley Barela all stopped within the first 11 minutes of the match before Madison Pensom scored to the bottom right with assists from Abby Hanton and Ashley Leonhart in the 17th minute. Barela, Madison Stormberg and Katya Alexis all added shots on target in the first half, to no avail, as La. Tech took its 1-0 lead into the half.
The Huskies' defense battened down the hatches in the second half, allowing just one off-target shot attempt over the final 45. HCU put an additional six looks on goal in the second half, including four by Olivia Rossman, but the Bulldogs' goalkeeper Mackenzie Lorkowski was up to the task and maintained her clean sheet.
HCU travels to Dallas, Texas this weekend for a Sunday, Aug. 30, evening matchup against the SMU Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.
