HOUSTON, Texas – The HCU women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2026 season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Texas Southern at Durley Stadium.
The Huskies (1-1) came out on the offensive early, earning a pair of corners and attempting four shots in the first ten minutes with shots on goal from Isabella Alamo and Paisley Barela. The Lady Tigers (1-1) put a pair of attempts on target in the 35th and 36th minutes, forcing Emmy McKeon into a pair of saves, but HCU held a six to four advantage in shots taken during the first 45 minutes.
HCU picked up the pressure in the second half and hit paydirt during the 63rd minute. Alamo sent a corner kick toward the far post where Isabella Dillow rose up to head home a goal past the TSU keeper in the bottom left corner. Jasmine Diaz and Olivia Rossman each had shots saved before the end of the game while the HCU defense limited the hosts to just one shot, a blocked attempt, over the final 30 minutes.
Dillow's goal is her first of the season after tying for the team-lead, with five, last year. Alamo, meanwhile, was credited with her first assist of the year after recording three as a freshman in 2025. In goal, McKeon finished with four saves for the shutout win. The junior now stands tied for third all time in career shutouts at HCU, with 11.
The Huskies out-shot the Lady Tigers by a 16-8 margin while earning seven corner kicks and conceding just one.
HCU will next host the Rice Owls on Thursday, Sept. 20, for the team's home opener at Sorrels Field with kick-off set for 5:00 p.m.
