HAMMOND, La. – HCU suffered a 12-1 seven-inning loss in game two of its three-game series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon as Southeastern locked up a win in the Southland Conference series between the two teams.
Southeastern (27-17, 15-8 SLC) pushed across the first run of the game in the second after loading the bases with nobody out. HCU (18-23, 10-13 SLC) starter
David Lopez escaped the jam with just one run allowed. The Lions then added three in the third, two in the fourth and another in the fifth to build a 7-0 lead.
In the sixth,
Anthony Avalos reached on a two-out single. On the next pitch,
Levi Castilleja drove a double to the right center gap that reached the wall and allowed Avalos to come around and score and put the Huskies on the board. Two home runs by the Lions in the seventh, including a grand slam, ended the game early at 12-1.
Avalos, Castilleja and
Jeremy Rader all had two-hit games for the Huskies. Lopez was tagged with his third loss of the season, falling to 4-3 overall on the mound. He allowed four earned runs on four hits and three walks with three hit batters while striking out three.
