BSB: Huskies and Bobcats Set for Midweek Matchup in San Marcos

HCU closes out road stretch before hosting five-straight at Husky Field

SAN MARCOS, Texas – HCU baseball keeps rolling this Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. with a non-conference road matchup against the Texas State Bobcats at Irvine-Rasmussen Ballpark.

The Huskies (16-19) are coming off a series win on the road, taking 2-of-3 of Southland Conference-leading Northwestern State, this past weekend while the hosts dropped 2-of-3 at home to Troy.

HCU's weekend success against Northwestern State came at the right time, snapping a stretch of three weekend series losses. The Huskies limited the Demons to just nine runs in three games, the fewest allowed since giving up nine runs in a road series win at McNeese.

The Huskies' pitching staff averaged better than 10 strikeouts per game in the series against NSU, finishing with 31 punchouts in 26 innings pitched. Offensively, HCU pounded out 35 base hits in the series with six doubles, two home runs and a triple.

Texas State (24-12) dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader to Troy after winning on Friday evening.

Senior outfielder Rashawn Galloway leads the Bobcats with a .370 batting average while four different players on the roster have hit at least 10 home runs this season. Dawson Park and Jaquae Stewart both lead the way with 12 homers while driving in 47 and 42 runs, respectively. Seven of Stewart's home runs have come in the last eight games.

The Bobcats own a 5.71 team ERA and hold an 18-6 record on their home turf this season, including a 4-1 mark at home in midweek games with the lone loss coming against then No. 2 Texas.

Following Tuesday evening's game, the Huskies will return to Husky Field for a three-game SLC series against New Orleans in a rematch of last year's SLC Championship Series. HCU athletics is hosting a crawfish boil on Saturday, Apr. 18, at noon on the concourse at Husky Stadium in between the HCU football Spring Game, starting at 10 a.m., and the Huskies' 2:00 p.m. baseball game against UNO. A 3 lb. plate of crawfish, corn, sausage and potatoes is just $25 if you purchase by Wednesday, Apr. 15.
