BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – As Southland Conference play has kicked into full gear for HCU, the Huskies enter a busy week with a pair of midweek games against No. 25 Texas A&M on the road and a home matchup with Rice on the schedule before a trip to face Stephen F. Austin in a three-game conference series.
HCU (11-12) is coming off a tough home weekend that saw the Huskies get swept by visiting UT Rio Grande Valley in a three-game series. Junior shortstop
Nico DeFazio had a big weekend at the plate, going 6-for-12 at the plate with a home run and a double, five RBI and four runs scored while running his hitting streak to seven games.
The Huskies will first face Texas A&M (18-5) on Tuesday, Mar. 24, at 6:00 p.m. at Blue Bell Park before coming back home to play the Owls (14-11) at Husky Field on Wednesday, Mar. 25, at 6:30 p.m.
The 25
th-ranked Aggies dropped two games of a three-game set against Georgia at Blue Bell Park this past weekend but have won each of their midweek matchups so far this season, including against fellow SLC members Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Lamar, UIW and Stephen F. Austin. As a team, Texas A&M ranks seventh in the nation with a .457 on-base percentage while junior outfielder Caden Sorrell leads the Aggies with 11 home runs and a .393 batting average.
Rice visits Husky Field for a rematch after the Huskies defeated the Owls across town at Reckling Park, 11-8, back on Feb. 22. The Owls lost two-of-three this past weekend in Florida to the South Florida Bulls in an American Athletic Conference series. JC Davis leads the Rice offense, batting .324 on the season with four home runs and five doubles while striking out just eight times in 86 plate appearances.
The Huskies travel to Nacogdoches, Texas for a three-game SLC series this coming weekend, playing the SFA Lumberjacks Friday through Sunday with every game starting at 6:00 p.m.
