CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Houston Christian women's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational, presented by Susser Bank, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Corpus Christi Country Club.
The 54-hole stroke play event will feature 36 holes on Monday followed by 18 holes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days. The field includes Blinn, East Texas A&M, HCU, Lamar, McLennan, New Mexico JC, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTRGV, Valpo and Weatherford.
The Huskies' lineup will include
Alejandra Ferrer, Natcha Makmanee,
Alyssa Stewart,
Abigail O'Brien and
Serena Churchill.
Hailey Hendershott,
Sara Pihlajamaki and
Abigail Inocian will compete as individuals.
Ferrer enters the tournament with a 73.9 scoring average and a season-best 212 (-4) at the Texas State Invitational, where she finished fourth. Makmanee leads the team with a 72.0 average and has recorded six par-or-better rounds this season, including a 209 (-7) at the Golf Iconic Classic. Stewart has posted five par-or-better rounds and owns a low 54-hole total of 214. Churchill and Pihlajamaki both carry 74.6 and 74.7 scoring averages, respectively, while O'Brien turned in a 224 at Texas State earlier this month.
As a team, HCU has recorded 23 par-or-better rounds this season and most recently placed third at the Texas State Invitational, highlighted by a season-low 281 in round two.
